I truly appreciate the way, The Duke Of Quails, expressed such strong, masculine, emotion and passion, within just those nine poems. I was intrigued to read his keen take on the affairs of the heart, along with his personal experiences in love. My favorite element of the book was the Introduction, which touched on several aspects of love. The aspect that struck me most was tolerance. Who is to judge how one chooses to love another? The poem I enjoyed most was, "My Other Half" where he speaks on, what I believe to be fatherly love, and a solid connection to his young daughter. Absolutely precious! I admire his courage to so freely express such heartfelt and heartwarming sentiment, using the art of poetry.
This is very readable, but I find it more like journal writing than poetry. Rhyme appears every so often, but not in a consistent pattern. I am all for free verse and more traditional poetic forms, and use them myself. However, there is an uneveness here that gets in the way of the message here.
